The route

Delhi to Salasar is roughly 285 kilometres and takes about five and a half hours. NH 52 crosses Haryana and drops into the Shekhawati region of Churu district, the fields slowly giving way to sand.

The road fills up on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and during the fairs held on the full moons of Chaitra and Ashwin there are long lines of people walking it on foot.

Salasar Balaji

The Balaji at Salasar is unlike other Hanuman shrines: here Bajrangbali is shown with a beard and moustache. That form is what the temple is known for.

The temple is traditionally dated to the middle of the eighteenth century. The story goes that a farmer ploughing a field in Asota village uncovered the image, and that a dream instructed it be brought to Salasar. Devotees offer nishan — coloured flags — and when a wish is granted they offer sawamani.

What plays on this channel

Bajrangi ki Shakti carries Hanuman bhajans, the Hanuman Chalisa, Bajrang Baan and compositions like Sankat Mochan. The second mood, Sab Bhajan, draws from the whole collection.

You do not have to wait for Tuesday to hear the Chalisa — the channel is open at any hour.
